Every year, between Christmas and New Year, there is this strange piece of time, where you are calming down after the excitement of one celebration and getting ready for the next. No work or preschool or clubs to dictate our time, the children have new toys to entertain them, we lose track of the days and just enjoy time together. And every year it always ends up being my favourite part of the whole festive season. A time with no commitments apart from fun and family; which lets be honest are the best kind of commitments around.
Anyone who knows me, will know I am drawn to the ocean. The seaside has a big place in my heart. In the heart of all the family actually. We aren't fair-weather beach lovers either... far from it! There is never a bad time for a trip to the beach really. And winter is one of my favourites. It's the perfect way to blow away those cobwebs from too many days stuck indoors and too many handfuls from the chocolate bowl.
Something about it is so soothing. The open space, the light glinting on the water, the lap of the waves on the shore, the enormous expanse of sky. It just feels like you can slow down at the beach, take stock, breathe deep.
And in winter I think it's even more beautiful in many ways. Crisp, clean air in your lungs and in your hair. Abandoned sand that you don't have to share. Rosy cheeks and watching your breath float away on a breeze. The quietness which allows you to feel closer to the simpleness of nature. Cosy coats, wooly hats and scarves, wellies and a warm hand to hold.
This year we are embarking on a challenge to have an adventure every single week. They may be big excited adventures or simple ones close to home, but we want to have a 2015 full of adventures and full of amazing memories.
There is something magical about the beach over Christmas-time - if we're in Norfolk there's always time to pop down the front for a stroll. Happy 2015! #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteFrosty winter sunshine I think is my new favourite, and when it is at the beach, well that is even better. It looks like a gorgeous day and I love all these. I think the last one is my favourite and the one of you and them both too. Perhaps you should have it as your twitter profile and make it seasonal! ;) xx
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photo's Lucy, the light is simply stunning. I would never think of going to the beach in the Winter, (I'm not a fan of being cold, or outside haha) but your photo's make it look so beautiful... I definitely think we'll have to take more trips to the beach this year - Alfie has only been once!! We don't live very close to the sea side, and last year we were so busy with wedding planning and getting married that we just never found time, so I've made a promise that this summer will be all about Alfie and going on adventures with him :) xx
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful photos. We've jsut got back from Norfolk (our Christmas roadtrip!) - I loved the frosty beach too!
ReplyDeleteYou write so beautifully, Lucy. I felt as though I was there with you all, bundled up in my winter coat, stomping through the cold sand. And as always, you've taken some stunning photographs of your adventure. I'm sure that your children will be so pleased to have had these memories documented, to keep as they grow up.
ReplyDeleteOh I love your wintery beach photos. Because we live about an hour and a half from the beach we do only tend to go in the summer but your photos make me want to go to the beach now! x
ReplyDeleteGosh your photography is absolutely stunning. You have such wonderful photos of you and your family. <3 I'm so not brave enough to go to the beach in the winter, I cannot stand the cold! x
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous photos! x
ReplyDeleteOh Lucy so stunning. I completely agree, the beach is best. My parents live right on the water and I am a water baby both in and out of it all year long. I am only sad we aren't closer to a beach and have nicer weather here like I did back home. I Would have us on the beach all year. Photos on the beach are always so adventurous. I can tell you all had a great time here. The smiles on your beautiful babies faces say it all. I can't thank you enough for linking this beautiful moment/day to Share With Me. #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteI am also a beach lover and couldn't have written this better myself - in fact I used many the same words when talking about it the other day and had to explain the term blowing away the cobwebs to Dylan.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. Thanks for sharing! I live near the beach too and its always a part of our lives as we walk there (rain or shine or storm) to and from school. Something about the wind that relaxes us from the busy or bad day =) #sharewithme
