castle park {52 adventures}

We are all loving this 52 adventures challenge so much. I think you can tell pretty early on with these sort of things whether you'll sink or swim... and I'm amazed at how fast talking about our adventures has just become a part of our family dialogue. Rich, who tries to keep out of all things blog, is coming up with adventure ideas and excited about getting involved with planning our year of fun. And our beautiful boy will ask each weekend what adventure we are going to go on this week. We've always been a family that enjoys time spent together (show me a family that doesn't) but really focusing on making fun memories together every single week seems to be making us even closer, which I love.

This week we went adventuring in Colchester, which is a town not too far from where we live. It's the oldest recorded town in the United Kingdom and as such is full of so much history and beauty. This adventure was definitely an adventure of two parts; an eating part and a playing part. And as eating and playing are two of our most favourite things to do, it was always going to be a bit of a winner.

We started our adventure at Pizza Express, which is a bit of a staple in our family restaurant list. We love it. We all love the food and they are just so great with children in there; with stickers and colouring to keep the kids happy so that mummy and daddy get a chance to eat their dinner in peace.

We then went on to Colchester's Castle Park. We actually didn't bother to go into the castle itself on this occasion, and stuck with exploring the beautiful grounds instead. We met some of the tamest squirrels that I've ever seen... and I discovered that my husband is really not the biggest fan of squirrels as we dashed away from them while dragging the children to safety (who know squirrels could be so scary!) We had lots of fun playing in the amazing play park. And we enjoyed a little rest by the bandstand. All in all, another great adventure.... now, what to do next week?

^ he's been living in this 90:10 hoodie since it arrived (review coming soon)
^ he didn't believe me that what he was running in was actually the old moat for the castle
^ they stood here for the longest time having a chat about the king and queen in the castle
^ nothing warms my heart more than when they go in for a spontaneous cuddle
 ^ peekaboo
^ he'd been to visit the toilet... they were so thrilled to be reunited!!!
^ this bridge terrifies me, but unsurprisingly the kiddos loved it

This year we are embarking on a challenge to have an adventure every single week. They may be big excited adventures or simple ones close to home, but we want to have a 2015 full of adventures and full of amazing memories.

  1. This looks like such a lovely place to visit, I've never been to Colchester but always wanted to visit - the Zoo too! Your hair's looking darker, it's lovely! It's so obvious how much BB and BG love each other, it's beautiful to see x

    1. We absolutely love the zoo, its a fantastic one and definitely worth a visit. And yes, I dyed my hair a bit darker for the winter... went a bit ombre and I've loved it. Although I'm sure I'll start heading back to the blonde again soon in time for summer. x

  2. If you ever want any guest appearances on your adventures we are happy to come along! We can make cameo appearances with you and we won't charge you a penny. ;) Like supporting actors or whatever. In all seriousness this looks like a lovely adventure and as you know Pizza Express is a STAPLE in this house- you have seen what my children eat there! And oh my god the cheesecake. x

    1. Haha, it's actually just changed a bit again. I had the top dyed a bit darker so it was ombré for the winter, but I'm already heading back lighter again! x

  4. We are very lucky to have such an amazing open space in the centre of town! You have to come back in the summer and see it "in full bloom" It really is very beautiful - and maybe if Evie is about she'll take them on the boating lake - she only needs half an excuse to re live her childhood!

    1. It's beautiful, and you're right, it's lovely to have such an open space in the middle of the town. We definitely want to go back and go on the boating lake in summer, and it looks like the play area is getting a massive extension too. x

  5. What an amazing challenge. I don't think I could do it but it's amazing what you come up with when you set yourself a goal for sure. I absolutely am loving their matching coats where did you get them? I keep saying I want to find a way to match my kids more but it's always bright blue for Buba and pink for MM these navy coats are gorgeous. If you ever need guests spots for adventures we are free !!! Always welcome to come for far adventures too. lol :) Lovely captures and sounds like you all make the most of the big and little times too! Beautiful that's what life should be about.

    1. We're loving our little challenge, it's defnitely focusing us on family fun. And we'll definitely have an adventure up with you at some point this year, it'll be fun.
Oh and the coats actually aren't matching just very similar; hers is a slightly girlier cut which flicks out at the bottom, while his is straighter. Hers is from Sainsburys and his is Next. x
