It was while we were both studying there,
that my husband and I met and fell in love.
It was the backdrop to the beginning of our story.
It was the very beginning of our family.
So when we got an opportunity to go back and revisit Scarborough
with our children in tow,
we didn't even hesitate.
A chance to go back to all our old haunts?
To show our children the key spots that were pivotal in what made us us?
Getting to see the town again through different eyes now we are grown up and a family?
Yes please!
To say it was emotional would be an understatement.
On several occasions while I played tour guide,
the beautiful boy asked why Mummy's voice had gone all funny.
In truth it was bizarre, exciting, bittersweet, exhilarating, and oh so natural
to be back somewhere which was so important to us.
to be back somewhere which was so important to us.
Scarborough feels as familiar to us as the back of our hands,
it feels like we were there just last week and not nine years ago,
… and then to look at what that nine years has given us;
as they ran around our feet and squealed with excitement.
It was a real eye opener about how far we've come
and how those moments back in Scarborough all those years ago
were the beginning of something magical.
I'm so glad that my husband and I met while we were young,
and that so much of our lives are interwoven with memories of the same places.
We stood outside the pubs and clubs where we spent hours having fun together,
we walked past the rooms where we learned so much and that shaped our careers,
we ate all our old favourite foods and wander our favourite roads and spots for thinking,
we ate all our old favourite foods and wander our favourite roads and spots for thinking,
we revisited the halls of residence which marked the beginning of our independent adult lives.
But more importantly for us;
we got to show our children the place where we met for the very first time
and where we both later graduated,
and where we both later graduated,
the place where Rich asked me somewhat clumsily what I would say if he asked me to be his girlfriend,
the place we had our first kiss,
the place where we first said I love you.
It was quite a trip down memory lane,
and one which we won't wait nine years to do again.
We fell in love with Scarborough all over again
but as a proper little family this time.
It gave us each other ten years ago,
and it has given us a beautiful weekend
with memories to remember for a long time.
^checking out the deck chairs in The Spa where Mummy and Daddy met
^ gazing longingly at the sand
^there is always time for sandcastle building
^ this girl is in love with the sea now, she stares at it in awe
^ Daddy introduced him to the 2p slot machines…. hooked!
^ I love how small she looks walking hand-in-hand with Daddy
^beach hut racing
^she gives the bestest hugs
^when did this boy get so grown up?
with memories to remember for a long time.

Oh what a magical, wonderful trip that must have been for you all. It makes me smile just thinking about it. Your photos are beautiful too! x
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great trip and the rainbow beach huts are awesome! I kind of wish that the bloke an I had a better story now so that we could go and visit somewhere!
ReplyDeleteI love all of these photos, especially the one of the three you, it's gorgeous. Well done Mr R for taking that! ;) I bet it was super special and emotional revisiting your old places, I know when I went to Leeds last year I felt exactly the same. It felt so surreal thinking of all the times we had had there, especially as life is so different now. The bar we met and worked in was the most weird- if I hadn't gone there for lunch I would have never met my Mr E. I love thinking about fate and things like that. x
ReplyDeleteOh what a beautiful post. Going back to where you began. Taking your children there to experience it too. Scarborough is somewhere I have always wanted to go, a place mentioned in so many old songs and movies, it's somewhere iconic for me that I will one day visit but it's iconic for you for so many different reasons. Tears in my eyes at this post. You've been together forever and experienced so much - together x
ReplyDeleteAwww lovely post and photos. Looks like such a beautiful place to start a love story x
ReplyDeleteYour kids are so cute and the photos bring back so many memories for me. Your relationship reads a lot like my parents and I love it whenever they take me to the places they used to go in the early stages of their relationship. I hope your children love experiencing and reliving memories with you and your husband as much as I do with my parents.
ReplyDeleteRaise The Waves
Love all the photos, the one of BG looking out to sea is just gorgeous. I only live a couple of miles from where Matt and I grew up but last week I actually went on a walk past the house we first lived in together and did the walk I used to do to work when I lived there, it's crazy how many memories it brings back, ones you thought you had forgotten. It is emotional! x
ReplyDeleteThis is such a lovely post with gorgeous pictures too. My husband and I married right after I finished university, so many people thought we were too young, but I've always said that when you know you've found the one, why wait? This sentence of yours rang very true and made me feel quite emotional: "I'm so glad that my husband and I met while we were young, and that so much of our lives are interwoven with memories of the same places." Totally agree!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous post to read! What a lovely trip down memory lane. Fab photos too :-) #sharewithme
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you had a great time, and I understand what you mean. I met hubby and had our kids in Scotland so it will always hold special memories, and I look forward to showing the boys when they are older. Great photos too! #sharewithme

ReplyDeleteLovely post and really gorgeous photos. I see why you like the huts so much. The one of BB on his own on the beach is just lovely.
ReplyDeleteWOW I truly have tears in my eyes. What a beautiful post. The photos are stunning and truly show how much this place means to all of you and amazing that it will become apart of their memories now too. Your story is so beautiful. Honestly I am all choked up, over emotional from my own beach trip down memory lane here and being home I guess but life really has beautiful things to offer. So glad you got the chance to go back and relive those amazing experiences and places together. Thank you also for linking up this amazing post to Share With Me I am truly honored to have you there. I love love the photo of you and BG cuddling it's precious as they all are but that one melted my heart too. Love your new profile photo of the three of you too! Gorgeous. #sharewithme
