is thinking of where their relationship might take them as they grow up.
I love the fact that for their whole lives
they will have a person that they've shared so much history with,
someone who I hope will just 'get them' like no one else does.
Someone who they can tease and joke with,
someone they can put in their place when needed,
and someone who will always be there for them.
"Be nice to your siblings;
they are the best link to your past
and the people most likely to stick with you in the future."
I think these lyrics from Baz Luhrmann's Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen) sum it up perfectly.
There is something beautiful about the nostalgia that siblings can share,
and the support they can give one another.
I know that my brother and I fall into old but familiar roles when we are together,
and there is something really comforting about that.
And that is what I love about seeing my two together right now,
the beginnings of that bond.
The push and pull of negotiating a space together,
the searching for one another and delighting in each other,
those cheeky glances and moments of shared laughter,
which all seem so new right now,
but which will be the backbone of their childhoods.
Siblings is all about taking a moment each month,
to record the relationship between your children
(whatever that may look like)
in a photo of them together.
The ten of us who cohost Siblings
were amazed and thrilled to see so many of you linking up your photos last month,
and it was heartwarming seeing them all and reading your posts about their relationships.
We can't wait to see what you share this month.
This month I am sending you to visit Jess at Along Came Cherry.
Jess's two kiddos are just gorgeous,
and she always seems to capture photos of them together which really tell their story.
Jess will send you to visit someone else,
and you can travel around in a circle to visit all the cohosts.
Oh I love your photos but more than that I love your writing today - Love the song lyrics, it's so true! My Brother and I have so many shared memories, we have experienced so much that only we remember and can talk about and I know that he will always, always be there for me. That is something incredibly special and something that I too am hoping my children experience x
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you. And I'm glad you feel the same. It's a real gift having a sibling to go through life with. x
DeleteLovely photos as always, well done for getting some sunshine!
ReplyDeleteThank-you. I took these on the little man's birthday and we were very lucky that the sun shone all day for us. x
DeleteOh my, I think these might be my favourite photos of yours EVER. I love everything about it, the sunlight, the shadows, the children. So beautiful xx
ReplyDeleteThanks so much lovely. I'm really pleased with them too. I literally had seconds to get the shot and took ten and crossed my fingers one of them was good. It was one one of those times when everything just came together beautifully. x
DeleteOoooh, lovely light in these photos. Looks like a gorgeous location. And great quote, very true.
ReplyDeleteThank-you. Winter light can be lovely when it decides to appear between the showers. x
DeleteBeautiful photos, beautiful words and beautiful babies! Your photos always tell a story Lucy and it's so wonderful to see BB and BG's developing bond captured on film! xxx #siblings
ReplyDeleteVikki @ Love From Mummy
Thanks lovely. They really are a delight to watch together, their relationship is so natural and growing all the time. x
DeleteBeautiful photos, so very sweet. I love thinking about my kids' relationship like this, too, and as I'm so close to my brother, I know they have a best friend for life.
ReplyDeleteIt is like you get a ready made best friend when you get a sibling, you may not always see eye to eye but that bond is unconditional. It's lovely! x
DeleteBeautiful beautiful post and pics
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you so much. x
DeleteBeautiful photos. I love how BG is reaching for BB's hand. So sweet. It's lovely to see their relationship blossoming. Reminds me of Z and C when they were a baby and a toddler. x
ReplyDeleteI know, I didn't spot that she reached for his hand until I uploaded them. Such a lovely moment. And I often think your two sound a bit like my two, it'll be interesting to see as they grow up. x
DeleteGorgeous! I love the closeness that comes across through the images of BB and BG. Also love a bit of Baz!
ReplyDeleteThank-you. They really are close and it's so sweet to see. And you've gotta love a bit of Baz!!! x
Deleteyou and that camera are just something else! gorgeous photos, as ever xx
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you. That's so sweet of you. We're a good team at times! ;) x
DeleteI love how you tell such stories with your photos, gorgeous photos they are, so natural, so close, beautiful as always Lucy xx
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely. That's always my aim when I pick up the camera, to tell a little story about a moment in time. I'm so glad that comes across. x
DeleteAdorable sat together there!
ReplyDeleteThey were so sweet sitting there together watching the world go by. x
DeleteLucy, these two pictures are priceless, and your words almost brought tears to my eyes, and great memories of me and my own siblings. I now look at my two and watch that same bond growing together, you are so right, who else has so much history and will always be there in the future, siblings!!! Your words are just beautiful here. Thanks for sharing and hosting such a great linky every month!!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you. It's such a gift really, to have siblings, even if it doesn't always seem that way. It's so lovely seeing the bond between my two grow and thinking they'll get to have what I have with my brother. x
DeleteOh those are just lovely lovely pictures of your beautiful twosome - and your words are so very true; these are the people they will never have to explain an in joke or being anything less than themselves with!
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely, and that's exactly it. So much of the communication between brothers and sisters never actually has to said, it's in the facial expressions and the silly gestures. Or at least that's how it is with my brother. And I already see glimmers of that between my two. x
DeleteAww, such a sweet post. Reminds me of when I get to spend time with my little brothers. I hope my kids grow up close like that too. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely to see so many people saying "Yes that's what I'm like with my siblings, I hope my kids get that too." x
DeleteBeautiful photos :) x
ReplyDeleteThank-you. I'm really pleased with them. x
DeleteGorgeous photos. I love the quote too and think it's spot on :)
ReplyDeleteThank-you. I just always think of that line of the song when I think of siblings, its so true. x
DeleteAs you know I love these photos. It must be so nice now that BG is walking as they get to be together and explore together a little more. I am in no desire for LL to hurry up and walk as I like her being my little baby but I know that I will enjoy this stage as well! x
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely. And while I was in no hurry for her to get up and walk, it's definitely lovely seeing them explore the world together more now. I know you'll love that stage when it comes. x
DeleteOh any photos with the sea in are always special but to have them both sat together just makes me 'awwww' out loud!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I love the sea so much. It's so calming. And I'm with you: the sea, plus kiddos, equals awwwww. x
DeleteLovely photos, you always seem to find the perfect locations, it's a really sweet capture. They both look so adorable together
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. x
DeleteSuch sweet photos, so nice to see some sunshine!
ReplyDeleteThe lyrics really do sum up the sibling bond perfectly. As an only child I find it fascinating to watch my girls and see how different they how and how they interact together.
Love this feature so much, thanks for hosting it x
I know, we found a bit of sunshine!!! It must be so interesting to watch when you don't have siblings yourself to compare it with. It's such a unique relationship. x
DeleteWonderful thoughts - it reminds me of what my dad always said to me and my siblings - stop fighting for one day you will only have each other - kind of sad but what it boils down to is we are all four us still together, yet other friends have come and gone. I hope my children have that.
ReplyDeleteNope, I get EXACTLY what your dad was saying. It seems morbid, but I love that they will have each other long after we are gone. x
DeleteStunning photos as always Lucy! xxx
ReplyDeleteAww, thanks lovely. x
DeleteSuch a sense of space and light in your photos, they're just beautiful. Like you, I often sit and watch and wonder at what my children's relationship will be like when they grow as well.
ReplyDeleteAhhh, thank-you. That's such a lovely compliment as that generally what I aim for. x
DeleteIt's lovely watching them grow & interact. Gorgeous photos x
ReplyDeleteIt really is, such a privilege. Thanks hun. x
DeleteLovely photos Lucy - you are really lucky to have beautiful children and gorgeous photos of them :) x
ReplyDeleteOh thank-you. I certainly feel very lucky. x
DeleteWhat a beautiful photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm so pleased with them. x
DeleteAhhh these are just gorgeous!! LOVE them xx
ReplyDeleteThanks lovely, I really love them too. x
DeleteYou've captured beautifully the beginnings of the bond which they'll have.
ReplyDeleteThank-you. It seems like they get a bit closet with every new day, so great to watch. x
DeleteThat's exactly it, there are certain things that only siblings can share because they've grown up in the same home and family. It's so lovely to have that. x
ReplyDeleteThese are one of my favs this month - the lighting is perfect and it looks like they're going to be the best of friends forever xx
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful captures of a precious moment in time. Love the lighting too.
ReplyDeleteThank you for starting this project, I love it!
Gorgeous photos and such true words. I always wonder what my children will reminisce about in future years. xxx
ReplyDeletei would love to know what they are thinking as they sit there enjoying some sunshien and looking out to sea. i would be sat there reminiscing for sure but of course they are probably just wondering whats for tea or where is mummy! very sweetx
