making believe

In the last few months,

make believe has become a much bigger part of play in this house.

It's like my little man's imagination exploded overnight,

and suddenly all those books we'd been reading him

started coming to life.

He uses stories so often in his play now,

as well as imagining and recreating real life situations he's been in

and things he's seen on the television.

And hand in hand with this newly found imaginative play,

comes the desire to dress up

and make believe at being someone else for a bit.

So this pirate costume by Haba and matching sword

which we were kindly sent by The Toadstool

were very well timed

and very much appreciated.

And we've played pirates at some point every single day since it arrived.

Some days he's the captain of the ship,

other days he's a pirate fairy,

and sometimes he isn't a pirate at all

and insists he's a king and calls everyone "your majesty".

I'm so impressed with the quality and design of the costume.

It's nothing like the cheap children's costume I've come across in the past,

it's well made, out of good quality fabric.
The sword is completely soft,
so I don't need to worry about him getting hurt mid sword fight.

The jacket and belt fasten with velcro,

meaning it's easy for the beautiful boy to use independently,

and the details in the design are brilliant.

It's a great addition to the dressing up box,

and would be a great costume for World Book Day coming up in March.

It certainly gets the captains seal of approval.
