kick it

I think that my hubby would quite happily have had me give birth to a toddler when I had the little man.
He has always been a doting and hands on daddy,
but in the last few weeks and months I have watched him blossom as a parent.

You can just tell that he genuinely loves spending time with his little man
and that he is enjoying him all that much more now that he gets so much back.
He loves the communication that comes with toddlerhood;
the constant learning and the new words.
They are friends now.
They rough and tumble together,
tickling and climbing and wrestling until they both fall about in giggles.
They pull the same cheeky faces when they are being naughty
and playing ball in the house when they know I don't like it.
Right from when he was born,
my hubby has said he couldn't wait until the day they could play football together.
At the moment, the little guy is a big fan of picking up and throwing the ball
rather than kicking it as Daddy instructs.
But watching them play together is adorable
and I am looking forward to continuing to see them play together over the years,
until the day when it is the younger one telling the older one how it's done.

  1. Lovely photos and I bet it is lovely for a Dad to have a little guy to play with. I know that if our next one is a little girl, Mr E has already said he is having Mads as the tomboy- she will be into cars and football! x

    1. We were talking the other day about the fact he will have to treat both children the same, and that if Splodge is a girl he'll have to teach her to play football too. I do think one of the reason that the hubby would like another boy is because it increases his chances of having a boy that's obsessed with football like him. X

    1. I definitely think that a lot of daddies prefer the toddler stage when they are more like mini people than babies. Riley will be there before you know it. X

  3. Aw the BB looks so very grown up. Lovely photos of your Two boys enjoying themselves.
Leo loves to kick the ball around, in-fact he is pretty good he really goes for it and dribbles the ball xx

    1. Oh dear, I'd best not tell my hubby that Leo will kick and dribble already. Our little guy is more interested in picking it up and throwing it. He could be a goalie I suppose. :) x

  4. Matt would have loved for me to have given birth to a toddler too! At the start I think men feel a bit helpless and because you don't really get much back from a baby it's not really very rewarding. As soon as Iyla turned about one, they started to develop an amazing relationship and it just keeps getting stronger, I love listening to them when I am upstairs, and I love knowing how much he adores her company, it's just so lovely. I think it's so funny though how most men want a little boy because they think they will be into the same things as them, I always joke to Matt that if we have a little boy then he might be more interested in playing with dolls then helping him fix cars! Lovely photos xx

    1. Haha. I said the other day what would the hubby do if Splodge is a girl and is really into football, but the little guy would rather dance. He looked a bit horrified but then said as long as one of his children likes football then it's okay. Although it will apparently be my fault if his first born son doesn't adore football like his daddy.
I'm kind of thinking that the hubby might enjoy the baby stage more this time, knowing what comes after it. Either that or he'll be pushing the baby to grow up fast. X

  5. Ah, how lovely! I think they do prefer it when they can interact. My hubby loves spending time with Bob. He enjoyed it when she was younger but I think he gets much more out of it now. x

    1. Thats the thing, I think. That they enjoy it more when they get something back in the form of interaction, rather than just catering to their every need. x

    1. They are like two little peas! And yes, ready to pop any day. It's flown by, but I think the summer has a lot to do with it. I always find the summer flies much quicker than any other time of year. x
